The stable area opened last week and the track itself opened for training on Friday. Stallman Mark Stancato reports that as of this morning 271 horses reside at Canterbury.
Among those onsite now are horses representing Mike Biehler, Mac Robertson, Kevin Danger, Bruce Riecken, Troy Bethke, Tim Padilla, Bryan Porter , Bernell Rhone, Gary Scherer, and Dave Van Winkle.
One new outfit coming to Shakopee is trainer Clay Brinson out of Phoenix. He is expected to have 25 head or more.
On the jockey front, no real exciting news yet. Agent extraordinaire Richard Grunder will handle the books of Juan Rivera and Ry Eikleberry.Agent Chuck Costanzo will have Paul Nolan again and is still holding out hope that Eddie Martin Jr. may ride here. That rumor has been circulating for years.
Reports indicate that The Baroness Anne Von Rosen will skip Canterbury to ride at Emerald Downs.
